IMPHAL, Aug 26: Police in Manipur’s Kakching district, in its intensive drive against illegal drugs, have arrested four persons including a woman and seized a huge quantity of heroin and opium in separate operations in the last 24 hours, police said on Thursday.
The woman was arrested with 10 kg of opium, the police said while identifying her as Lunreilhing Baite of Chandel district, police also said.
A team of police commandos of the district arrested her on Thursday during an operation at Moltichan village under Sugnu police station of Kakching district, based on specific information.
On Wednesday night, the Kakching police, in another operation, arrested two persons along with 1.429 kg of heroin powder.
The contraband drug was recovered during a check to a vehicle along Indo-Burma Sugnu Road at Serou Lamkhai, police said.
The police further said that the frisking and checking team stopped the vehicle for checking and during the check 1.429 kg of Heroin powder packed in 108 soap cases were recovered.
Following the recovery of the contraband drug, occupants of the vehicle were arrested. They were identified as Letsem Khongsai of Chandel district and Genkhopao Haokip of Churachandpur district, according to police.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspected drugs were purchased from Myanmar and were meant to be transported to Churachandpur, the police further said.
The arrested persons along with the seized item were handed over to Sugnu police station for further necessary legal action, the source said.
The district police commando, yet in another operation, arrested one more person with 127 gram of heroin powder
The arrested person was identified as B Mustap (19) of Moreh town.
The police commandos recovered the drug packed in 10 soap cases upon checking him on suspicion near Kombirei English School at Phundrei Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district on Wednesday night.
The seized items and the arrested person were handed over to Khongjom police station of Thoubal district for further necessary legal action, the police added. (NNN)
