Imposter Alert In Meghalaya

SHILLONG, April 19 (NNN): The Meghalaya police has issued an advisory requesting the people not to fall prey to fraudsters impersonating a superior official of a particular organisation or department.

Superintendent of police (CID), Supriya Das, in an advisory stated that it has come to the notice of police that some individuals are gathering available information about a particular organisation or department and its employees from the internet including information such as the name, designation, contact no, pictures, etc (of superior officials and subordinates). Thereafter, they impersonate the superior official of a particular organisation or department by using their name and picture obtained from the internet on social media sites and other messenger apps especially Whatsapp in order to dupe their subordinates.

“Citizens are requested not to fall prey to such emails or messages and if they come across or receive any message from such superior official they should confirm and verify before making any payment purchase,” the police officer said while urging the citizens to immediately report the matter to the nearest police station or cyber-crime wing (CID), Meghalaya, Shillong for necessary action.
