Indian Army commemorates 52 years of victory in 1971 in NE states

GUWAHATI, Dec 17: Commemorating 52 years of Indo-Pak 1971 war which resulted in liberation of Bangladesh, a large number of events were held all across the NE states by Spear Corps of Indian Army.

A solemn wreath laying event was held at Spear Corps War Memorial at Rangapahar Military Station wherein the chief of staff and all officers paid homage to the fallen heroes of the 1971 war.

Assam Rifles Sector in Agartala organised an Indo-Bangladesh Maitri Bike Rally, “Fuelled by Freedom, Ride by Friendship”, comprising of 60 Bikers, 25 soldiers and 35 civilians from Sabroom near Indo-Bangladesh, Maitri Bridge to Agartala traversing more than 200 kms. The bike rally was flagged-in on December 16 by Governor of Tripura, N Indrasena Reddy at the Albert Ekka War Memorial in Agartala.

A cycling team, the ‘Pedaling Patriots’ representing the Spear Corps also, reached their final destination, the iconic Albert Ekka War Memorial, at Agartala marking the culmination of their remarkable journey. The local community extended a warm and enthusiastic welcome, with school students from various institutions and NCC cadets lining on the road, ensuring the team received a fitting reception. Shri Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Hon’ble Governor of Tripura, flagged-in the cyclists.

The patriotic and cultural events to mark the day continued in the evening with a series of cultural and patriotic performances by various performers, in the esteemed presence of Dr (Prof) Manik Saha, the chief minister of Tripura and Maj Gen Sumit Kabthiyal, general officer commanding, Red Shield Division. People from all corners of the state attended and cherished the event.

It was a day when Spear Corps, Red Shield Division in unison with local populace of Agartala paid homage to the supreme sacrifice of our war heroes of 1971 and saluted the spirit of Indian Army. The chief minister took the opportunity to meet and felicitate the Ex-Servicemen (ESMs) and Veer Naris.

A painting competition for children was also organised earlier in the month with patriotic themes to instill pride and patriotism in the young minds, the winners of which were also felicitated by the Chief Minister during the cultural evening.
