Liangmai bodies react to Mizo student body

IMPHAL, May 2 (NNN): The Eastern Liangmai Chief & Chairman Association (ELCCA) and Ahangrok Chief Chairman Association (ACCA) strongly condemned the “senseless” statement made by the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizo Students’ Association) –GHQ- Aizawl, on April 30, 2023, for issuing statement against the leadership of N. Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur and the Meitei community. The two Liangmai organisations said that the statement of Mizo Zirlai Pawl “is an irrational statement which is uncalled for”.

The Liangmai bodies asked, “Why does Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizo Students’ Association)–GHQ, Aizawl, see the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but doesn’t consider the beam that is in thine own eye?”  The two Liangmai bodies further said that the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizo Students’ Association) may remark “our State only after cleaning up the beam that is blocking thine eyes”. The Liangmai bodies asked the Mizo Zirlai Pawl not to interfere in an internal matter of their state Manipur. It may also be mentioned that the Manipur State Government is doing its constitutional duties, the Liangmai organisations added.

The ELCCA and the ACCA then said it was very unfortunate to see such ignorant and immature statements in the public domain which could escalate to communal flare up. They view such reckless statement very seriously- and further advised to consult the matured leaders and update themselves so that such illogical statement which has potential to create enmity to the peaceful loving people of Manipur.

The Liangmai bodies then said, “It may be noted that in a democratic society, no particular community has authority to dictate over other communities in any matter whether it is a formation of union or civil society organization”. They added, “In fact, in a plural society like Manipur, there is no place for hegemony or monopoly”.

The Liangmai organizations appriseed the Mizo students’ body to refrain from making “baseless bulletins” and mislead people. “If any untoward incident happens to any Manipuris in Mizoram than Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizo Students’ Association) –GHQ Aizawl, should be held responsible,” the Liangmai bodies cautioned.
