IMPHAL, FEB 24: The Manipur cabinet decided on Saturday to table the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the upcoming Legislative Assembly session scheduled to commence on February 28.
The agendas discussed in today’s cabinet meeting are pertinent to the forthcoming assembly session.
Following the cabinet meeting, Dr S Ranajn Singh, minister of information and public relations, addressed the media at his residence in Lamphel, Sanakeithel, Imphal West.
He announced that the cabinet also resolved to introduce the Manipur Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2024. Additionally, reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Budget 2024-Revised Estimates 2023-24 and Budget Estimates 2024-25 (Vote on Account) will be presented in the House.
Dr. Singh further revealed that the cabinet agreed to implement the recommendations of the second National Judicial Pay Commission regarding allowances for Manipur judicial service, effective from January 1, 2016, in compliance with the directive of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Moreover, the cabinet decided to table the Manipur Labour Laws (Exemption from Renewal of Registration and Licence by establishment) Manipur, Bill 2024 in the Manipur Legislative Assembly for enactment.
As an ‘unlisted’ agenda item, Dr Singh mentioned that the cabinet approved the creation of one professor and one associate professor position at the College of Nursing, Manipur, to meet the norms of the Indian Nursing Council. The cabinet also endorsed the creation of three positions—translator, junior grade, and registrar—in the translation wing for the High Court of Manipur. Furthermore, the cabinet sanctioned the establishment of a super-specialty branch in pulmonary medicine and critical care at JNIMS. Additionally, the cabinet approved the direct purchase of 3.77 acres of land in Imphal East for the establishment of an automated testing station. (NNN)
