IMPHAL, Feb 17: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Saturday denounced the recent incidents of violence in Churachandpur and Imphal East district, labeling them as unfortunate.
Addressing media persons at the chief minister’s secretariat in Imphal, Singh expressed strong condemnation and assured that magisterial inquiries would be conducted into the incidents.
Singh also emphasised the government’s commitment to uphold law and order, protect public property, and ensure the safety of citizens.

He further asserted that stringent legal action would be taken against those found guilty, including individuals making threats on social media platforms.
Regarding the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum’s (ITLF) ultimatum to the SP of Churachandpur, Singh firmly stated that such threats against law enforcement agencies and government officials would not be tolerated. He reiterated the government’s support for the SP and the DC of Churachandpur.
Singh also addressed misleading narratives, stating that divisive politics and misinformation aimed at inciting youth were unacceptable.
The chief minister clarified that the government had taken appropriate disciplinary action in response to incidents involving the snatching of weapons.
In light of reported gunfights in Sugunu area and Lailoiphai, additional forces have been deployed for combing operations, with instructions given to the ADG (Law and Order) to oversee activities in the area.
Later, Singh assured citizens that no area in the state would be overlooked in maintaining law and order, emphasising the government’s unwavering commitment to state and national security. (NNN)
