Manipur district makes verification of tenants by police mandatory

IMPHAL, Nov 5 (NNN): In a move to check illegal migrants and Inner Line Permit (ILP) violators, a district administration in Manipur ordered all house owners to mandatorily get tenant verification done from the concerned police station.

The order of the Kakching district administration issued recently also urged the district superintendent of police (SP) to ensure verification of all the houses, guest houses and hotels in the district which house tenants, guests and also to check genuineness of the identity documents in their possession.

The district administration issued the order under sub-section 2 of section 144 of CrPC 1973 and the same will be effective immediately.

The order observed that the instances of illegal migrants in various parts of the State have been continuously detected and apprehended by the State Police and other related machineries.

In the recent time, there has been detection and violation of ILP guidelines and many arrested in different parts of the State during ILP verification drive, it added.

The order stressed the need for taking up steps for identification of illegal migrants and also to check the use of wrongfully obtained Indian documents including Aadhaar cards, voter cards, driving licenses, ration cards, ILPs.

To mention here, in recent drives against illegal migrants and ILP violators across the State, the police have detected a good number of foreigners from neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh and Myanmar staying in the State with fake identification documents and violators of ILP.

There were instances of the police intercepting foreigners possessing Aadhaar cards obtained using fake residential certificates.

The police in Thoubal district had also arrested a local man who felicitated the foreigners in obtaining Aadhaar cards. Following the arrest, locals of Lilong area of the district had even closed down an Aadhaar processing centre at Lilong Bazar run by the arrested person.
