IMPHAL, June 9 (NNN): A joint meeting of 10 opposition political parties operating in Manipur on Friday resolved to press for summoning a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and discuss the ongoing turmoil in the state.
Presided over by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra, the joint meeting held at Congress Bhavan here was attended by representatives of 10 political parties – INC, CPI, CPI-M, JDU, AIFB, RSP, SS(UBT), TMC, NCP and AAP.
The meeting passed a three-point resolution which included, among others, to press for summoning a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and discuss the ongoing turmoil in the state.
While passing a resolution strongly condemning the stoic silence of the Prime Minister despite 36 days of unrest in the state, the joint meeting also decided a delegation of the 10 parties to go to Delhi and meet with the Prime Minister and seek his intervention in bringing back normalcy in the state.
Manipur has been reeling under turmoil after spate of violence erupted since the evening of May 3. Around 100 lives have been lost and scores injured in the clashes besides rendering homeless to thousands of people of both the conflicting communities.
