Imphal, Oct 24: A 14-year-old girl from Moijing village in Manipur’s Thoubal district has reportedly become pregnant following an alleged rape by her neighbour. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, leading to demonstrations outside the Thoubal district court and in Moijing village.
The accused, Md Suleiman (35), a cosmetic products vendor, was arrested on October 16 and is currently in judicial custody. He was presented before the Special Court dealing with cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Monday.

As per the victim’s cousin, Babul Ahamed, the accused lured the girl with cosmetic items and allegedly raped her. The crime was discovered three months later when the girl showed signs of pregnancy. After revealing the details of the assault to her family, a police complaint was filed leading to the accused’s arrest.
The incident has incited anger in the region, with protests outside the Thoubal district court and a peaceful sit-in protest in Moijing village. The case is currently under investigation and the accused is expected to face charges under the POCSO Act.
