Manipur Pradesh Congress presidential election on Oct 8

IMPHAL, Sept 21: The election to elect new president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) will be held on October 8, ahead of the AICC presidential election scheduled on October 17.

Addressing the media after a special meeting of the party today, AICC Manipur election in-charge Bhanu Pratap Sharma informed that the process for elections had already begun.

He said that before the MPCC presidential election, the elections of block to district level committees of the party will be held and processes for the same had already completed.

The results of the elections will be declared soon and much before the election to the post of president of MPCC.

The AICC leader said that election to the post of MPCC has to be completed before the AICC presidential election scheduled on October 17 if necessary.

He further said that as fixed by the Central election authority of the AICC, nomination for presidential election for MPCC will be allowed from September 24 till 30.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on October 1 and the list of eligible candidates will be announced on the same day.

The counting of votes of the MPCC poll will be held on October 19 and the results will be declared on the same day, he said.

Sharma then said that the AICC needs a deserving person to lead the party as president as the party is putting all-out efforts to save the country “from ruining further under the BJP rule”.

He alleged that the BJP is running an anti-people government. “The people of the country are suffering a lot due to price hikes and unemployment,” he added.
