IMPHAL, Sept 5: Normal work in the Manipur secretariat paralysed with the commencement of the cease work strike of the employees.
Employees of the secretariat launched the cease work strike beginning from Monday after no positive response came forth from the Government side despite a five-day ultimatum served by them under the aegis of the Manipur Secretariat Services’ Association (MSSA).
Talking to reporters at Old Secretariat Block on Monday, MSSA president Purujit Lairikyengbam said that despite the deadline set by them to translate their long pending demands into work, no positive response came forth from the Government side.
He announced that the cease work strike will continue until a positive response came forth from the Government side.
The president of the employees’ body alleged that even though the State Government had agreed to provide grade pay for the ASO/SO and PS and DA to employees similar to the rate of Central Government, it is yet to be translated into work.
Necessary orders are not issued till date, he added.
Other demands are also not addressed by the Government, he further added.
Mention may be made that MSSA, on August 31, had served the ultimatum to the Government to translate a nine-point charter of demands into work on or before September 5.
The demands included immediately discontinuing the engagement/re-engagement of retired employees and expedite the whole promotion process to immediately fill-up all vacant posts.
The association also demanded that the Government stop posting of employees of secretariat service outside the State without any valid reason and demanded cancellation of an order regarding transfer of secretariat assistant (GAD) M Romen Singh to Manipur Bhawan, Kolkata.
It demanded a grade pay at the rate Rs 1,800 in respect to group-D secretariat employees as well as a grade pay in respect of the post of caretaker at the rate Rs 4,200, Rs 4,600 and Rs 4,800 for ASO/SO and PS respectively.
The association further demanded to issue orders on payment of DA at the rate of Central Government with effect from January 2023 as agreed upon.
While demanding scrapping of the National Pension Scheme (NPS), the association also pressed the State Government to release or clear all the retirement benefits and pension for the employees who retired on superannuation. (NNN)
