Meghalaya: Alert BSF troops thwart cattle and sugar smuggling along international border of Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 12: The Border Security Force (BSF) of Meghalaya successfully foiled a cattle smuggling attempt on Sunday by rescuing buffaloes from the International border. The cattle were intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh via the West Jaintia Hills district.

Acting on specific intelligence, the 4th Battalion of the BSF conducted a special operation, rescuing 37 buffaloes hidden in a jungle. The rescued cattle were subsequently handed over to the relevant police station for further action.

In a separate joint operation, the 181st Battalion of the BSF and the Meghalaya police seized 12,000 kilograms of sugar, also intended for smuggling into Bangladesh, from the International border of South Garo Hills.
