Shillong, Dec 8 (NNN): The Meghalaya High court has asked the state government to ascertain from the ministry of surface transport about the recent announcement with regards to funds for Meghalaya roads which include the western bypass.
Hearing a PIL on Thursday, the court said, “The state should make every attempt to ascertain the position from the relevant Ministry since the announcement was made by the union minister, no less, in the course of a visit to the Northeast.”
It said that the union minister had made a recent announcement for surface transport in Guwahati regarding the augmentation of funds for the construction of roads in the north eastern states.
Some announcements have also been made regarding the infusion of funds for Meghalaya roads, including a western bypass for Shillong.
However, it is submitted by the state that there is no formal intimation in such regard.
The next hearing will be held on February 10, 2023.
