Shillong, May 25: Following the discovery of a suspected human remains on Bivar Road in Shillong, Meghalaya on May 22, authorities in East Khasi Hills district conducted a search operation, leading to the recovery of parts of an upper torso from a nearby drain on May 24.
According to a statement released by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district, Sal Rituraj Ravi, IPS, the suspected skull was found adjacent to a drain on Bivar Road, prompting an investigation into the identity of the deceased.
The search team, after discovering decomposed lower limbs in the drain on May 23, continued their efforts and located parts of the upper torso the following day. The recovered body parts have been sent to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for medical examination.
The press release highlighted ongoing efforts to identify the victim, with a case registered at Sadar PS under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder). The clothing found on the remains suggests the victim is male.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the human remains.
