GUWAHATI, July 20: A two-day stakeholders meet on ‘Promoting Apiculture in the North East Region’ brought together honey bee farmers, entrepreneurs, and sector experts from across Meghalaya. The conference aimed to strategize the state and region’s potential in apiculture and bridge the gap between science and development for the benefit of farmers and the environment.
The meet witnessed the signing of a memorandum between the Meghalaya Farmers Empowerment Commission (MFEC) and NECTAR, signaling a positive step towards advancing apiculture initiatives.
Meghalaya envisions transforming its agriculture sector in the next five years, and strategic investments are being made to elevate it to new heights. The state’s unique honey has sparked initiatives to promote apiculture through the Apiculture Mission.
Chief minister Conrad Sangma expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration of experts and stakeholders, asserting that scientific approaches and technology will be embraced to make Meghalaya the focal point of apiculture initiatives in the North East.
By leveraging the tremendous potential of apiculture, Meghalaya aims to empower its farmers and establish itself as a leading hub for beekeeping activities in the region.
