GUWAHATI, July 20: The Meghalaya Cabinet has granted approval for the acquisition of land in Nongdiengngan village (Nongmahir Lake), Ri Bhoi district, to bolster the Meghalaya government’s land bank for tourism projects.
The move aims to unlock the vast tourism potential of the area and pave the way for the development of tourism infrastructure.
“By procuring land in Nongmahir Lake, the state government aims to create opportunities for tourism projects and attract investments in the region. The picturesque location has immense tourism potential, making it an ideal destination for various tourism ventures,” chief minister Conrad Sangma said.
The decision reflects the Meghalaya government’s commitment to promoting the tourism sector in Ri Bhoi district and harnessing the natural beauty of Nongmahir Lake to drive economic growth and boost the local community. With increased land holdings, the state government will be better equipped to initiate and execute tourism projects, further enhancing the state’s appeal as a tourist destination.
