Nagaland civic body polls on June 26

DIMAPUR, Apr 30: The Nagaland State Election Commission announced the schedule for elections to the civic bodies in the state.

According to a notification issued by state election commissioner TJ Longkumer, the elections to the three municipal councils and 36 town councils in the state will be held on June 26.

The notification said the period for filing of nomination is from June 7 to June 11. The list of validly presented nomination papers will be posted on June 12. While the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done June 13, the list of nominated candidates will be posted on June 14.

Application for revision of the order of the authority scrutinising the nomination has been fixed from June 15 to June 18 and the revision application filed will be decided on June 19. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 20 and the lists of contesting candidates and polling stations will be posted on June 20 after 3 pm.

While the date of poll is June 26, the date of repoll, if any, is June 28 and counting and declaration of results will take place on June 29.

In another notification, the State Election Commission has informed that in exercise of the provisions, as provided for under sub-rule (3) and sub-rule (4) of Rule 20 of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules, 2023, the list of officers designated as returning officers and assistant returning officers against their respective municipalities by the deputy commissioner concerned has been approved by it.

Meanwhile, with the announcement of poll, the model code of conduct (MCC) has come into force till the completion of the poll process.
