Nagaland: One gets lifer for murder of 17-yr-old girl

DIMAPUR, March 4: Dimapur police secured the conviction and sentencing of an accused in a brutal murder case involving a minor, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice.

The fast track special court (POCSO), Dimapur, sentenced Yilobemo Mozhui to life imprisonment for the murder of a 17-year-old girl in 2020, Dimapur DCP (crime) said in a release on Tuesday.

On October 22, 2020, the body of the 17-year-old victim was discovered at the St Clare Higher Secondary School ground in Kachari Gaon (Phevima).

Upon receipt of the report, women police station, Dimapur, registered case no 32/2020 with Ketoukhrielie Metha, ACP, Dimapur as the investigating officer (IO) and DCP Zone II Aotula T Imchen as the supervisory Officer.

The team conducted a meticulous inquiry, collecting substantial oral, documentary and forensic evidence to build a foolproof prosecution case.

A prima facie charge under Sections 302,201,206 IPC was established by the investigating officer and submitted to court for trial of the accused Mozhui.

The prosecution, led by special public prosecutor  Imlimongla, presented the evidence before the court, establishing that the accused had committed the murder.

After a thorough trial, the court of Special Judge Khesheli Chishi found the evidence compelling and held the prosecution had proven the charge of murder against Mozhui beyond  reasonable doubt.

On March 2, the court pronounced the sentence, awarding life imprisonment to the convict for the heinous crime.
