SHILLONG, Feb 12: The call for bringing together leaders across party lines into one platform branded as, “One North East,” has yielded results with the National People’s Party (NPP) reaching out to Dima Hasao in the poll bound state of Assam, and popular leader, Daniel Langthasa was welcomed and inducted into the party.
NPP national president and Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma formally inducted Daniel Langthasa into the party during a large public convention at Maibang, Dima Hasao on Thursday.
The induction ceremony was attended by top NPP functionaries including NPP’s National Working President James K. Sangma, Vice President Hemochandra Singh, founder of the Tipra Motha Party, Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, and former minister and leader from Nagaland, Mmhonlumo Kikon, along with several senior leaders of the NPP from across the North East.
Langthasa’s induction into the NPP assumed significance as Assam is soon going to Assembly polls in March-April this year, paving the way for the party to strengthen its base especially in the hills districts of the poll bound state.
Langthasa joined the NPP along with a large number of his supporters, marking a significant political development in Dima Hasao and strengthening the party’s presence in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Conrad Sangma reiterated the party’s commitment to the vision of a stronger and more connected “One North East,” where states and communities work together for the shared progress while preserving their unique cultural heritage and identity.
He stated that the induction reflects the growing trust of people in the party’s vision of development rooted in respect for tribal identity, indigenous rights, and grassroots aspirations.
Sangma also emphasised that the NPP remained committed to empowering indigenous communities while ensuring inclusive development, improved connectivity, and greater opportunities for youth across the North East.
The party leaders who were present at the convention, noted that the event symbolised a strong resurgence of the NPP in the Dima Hasao region and expressed confidence that the people would continue to support a political platform that prioritises identity, dignity, unity, and development.
