IMPHAL, March 29 (NNN): Over 300 students took part in a bike rally on Wednesday to mark the launching of “Students’ Anti-Drug Task Force” to take part actively in curbing drug menace in Manipur.
The bike rally, calling for an end to abuse of drugs and other intoxicants, was flagged off from the western gate of Kangla fort and converged at KM Blooming School in Thoubal district.
The rally was organised jointly by Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) and All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU).
After flagging off the rally, MSF president Maibam Julesh Singh said that the rally was being organised with the objective of saving the society from the evil impact of the drug menace.
The abuse of drugs and other intoxicants have given a great impact to society today. To save the society from drowning in drugs, the society needs to stand unitedly, he said.
He added that the students’ bodies supported the government’s ‘war on drugs’. The poppy cultivation menace in the hill areas of the state is an unfortunate thing.

The rally aimed to reach out to the public, particularly the students in every nook and corner of the state and make them aware of the evil impact of drugs on society, he said.
He further informed that the task force was formed considering the need for the student community joining the campaign against drugs in the state.
Without the involvement of the student community, the campaign against drugs would remain incomplete, he observed.
Earlier on Tuesday, the representatives of the newly formed task force had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister, seeking his support to the campaigns to be launched by the task force in the coming days, he said.
