Guwahati, Jan 2: Four public health centres in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district will no longer have to depend on the grid for uninterrupted electricity supply as they have been upgraded with solar power.
These public health centres are the Jongksha PHC, Wahsherkhmut PHC, Mawkynrew PHC and Jatah PHC.
The state government has collaborated with the Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE) to provide solar power in these four public health centres. Apart from this, these health centres have also been up graded with advanced medical equipment to help in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
“Before the start of this #NewYear, 4 more PHCs have been upgraded with solar power and various medical equipment in different districts of Khasi Hills through a collaboration between State Government and @GHE_Connect”, said Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on ‘X’.
In 2021, the GHE through its social impact arm, the RHYTHM had announced to collaborate with Asian direct selling company, QNET to provide solar power to people in remote areas of the state Along with improving the infrastructure of healthcare institution in these areas.
GHE and QNET had targeted to provide power connection in 470 villages and solar power in primary healthcare centres through the project ‘Empowering North-East India’. The project aimed to cater to the power needs of 23,000 residents in the state
