DIMAPUR/WILLIAMNAGAR, APRIL 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 100 W FM transmitters at Mon and Tuensang in Nagaland along with others on Friday.
Gracing the occasion as the guest of honour at Mon, Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak said it was a great privilege to be a part of Mon district which has been included in a net of information.
On behalf of Mon district, she thanked the AIR for introducing it. She also said it is the vision of PM Modi that no one should be left out even in such a far-flung area like Mon.
“In this digital world, information is a very powerful weapon that one cannot do anything without,” Konyak said.
She said radio is one of the cheapest and most affordable means of communication where one can get accurate news. The MP added that this is a platform where one can contribute and also learn.
She urged the citizens of Mon to lend their cooperation, so in the future a proper station will be set up to cover the whole district.
Lemjan Phom, programme executive, AIR Kohima, thanked the Prime Minister for inaugurating 100W FM transmitter at Mon.
The virtual inauguration of the 100W FM transmitter by the Prime Minister was held at FM Tuensang Station.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Tuensang deputy commissioner Nokchasashi said the opening of the FM station at Tuensang would greatly benefit the people of the area, as they rely on the radio for their communication to get information and news. He further said the FM station would transmit information about locally relevant programmes, education, health and social issues to the masses which can bring a significant change in the life of the people.
On the other hand the Prime Minister inaugurated the 100 watt FM Radio Transmitter at Williamnagar via video conferencing in the presence of East Garo Hills deputy commissioner, Vibhor Aggarwal, AIR Station director, Tura, Ferdinand D Marak and other dignitaries on 28 April.
Inaugurating the transmitter, the prime minister said that with the expansion of FM radio transmitters in the north-east, the youth will immensely be benefitted and with the inauguration of 91 transmitters all over the country, two crore people will now be covered by the FM radio. He also said that broadcast through FM transmitters and digital connectivity will be expanded to help the people to receive quality information.
The AIR Station Director, Tura, Ferdinand D Marak, informed that the FM transmitter is a cherished dream of the people of Williamnagar which will cover a radius of 400 square kilometers.
