AGARTALA, Jan 6: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), along with members of the Sanatani community from North Tripura, organized a protest and rally on Tuesday at the Raghna Border along the India–Bangladesh frontier in Tripura’s North District.
The demonstration was held to protest alleged atrocities, persecution, and targeted violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.

The protest began around noon at BBI Maidan in Dharmanagar, where a large number of participants gathered before proceeding in a bike and vehicle rally towards the Raghna Border.
Upon reaching the border area, the protesters staged a peaceful demonstration, demanding the immediate suspension of import and export activities between India and Bangladesh through the Raghna Land Customs Station (LCS).
Leaders of the VHP submitted a memorandum to senior administrative officials, expressing “grave concern and deep resentment over the continuous atrocities, systemic persecution, and targeted killings of minority Hindus in neighboring Bangladesh.”
The memorandum stated that the recurring violence had “reached an unbearable limit,” prompting the people of North Tripura to oppose any form of trade, commerce, or communication with Bangladesh through the border.
“We strongly demand the immediate closure of the Raghna Border and the suspension of all bilateral trade activities. National dignity and the safety of our community must take precedence over economic relations,” the memorandum read, urging the administration to convey their concerns to higher authorities.
Addressing the media, rally coordinator Birendra Das said the protest was organized in response to the killing of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh, along with continued reports of violence against Hindus and other minority communities.
He called for exemplary punishment for those responsible for the killing and demanded concrete measures to ensure the safety and security of minorities in Bangladesh. The protesters also appealed to Indian citizens to boycott Bangladeshi products and called for a complete halt to bilateral trade until incidents of violence against Hindus cease.
