GUWAHATI, May 25 – The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its vigilance against illegal cross-border infiltration through the railway network, apprehending several Bangladeshi nationals and their Indian handlers over the past two months.
According to an official statement, the RPF, in coordination with central and state security agencies, carried out a series of operations in April and May 2025 to prevent the railway system from being misused by illegal migrants and human traffickers.
Between May 1 and May 16, 2025, the RPF apprehended six Bangladeshi nationals along with six Indian agents in multiple operations.

The most notable action occurred on May 16, when personnel from RPF/Agartala, along with the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB)/Badarpur and the Border Security Force’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (BSF/AHTU), detained two Bangladeshi nationals—one male and one female—along with four Indian agents at Agartala railway station.
Additional arrests were made at Radhikapur and Agartala stations on different dates, where four more Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian handlers were taken into custody.
All individuals were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for legal action under relevant provisions of the Railway Act.
In a series of earlier operations in April 2025, the RPF/NFR had apprehended 32 Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian agent at railway stations in Agartala, Bhanga, Dharmanagar, and Karimganj.
The RPF has reaffirmed its commitment to securing railway premises from being exploited as transit points for illegal activities.
It continues to work in close coordination with state police forces and central agencies, including the BSF, to prevent cross-border infiltration and trafficking.
Officials stated that operations in vulnerable regions will be further intensified to uphold national security and ensure passenger safety.
