Imphal, April 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the situation in conflict-ridden Manipur has significantly improved due to prompt intervention by the central and state governments.
He highlighted the dedicated resources and administrative machinery used to resolve the conflict in an interview with the Assam Tribune. Home Minister Amit Shah’s presence in Manipur during the peak of the conflict and his subsequent meetings with various stakeholders were also mentioned by the Prime Minister.
He further noted the ongoing relief and rehabilitation process, including a financial package for those residing in shelter camps. Despite criticism from the Opposition blaming his government for Manipur’s unrest, PM Modi reiterated his support for the state in Parliament, assuring that the central and state governments are working in unison to restore peace.
The ethnic clashes in Manipur, which have claimed nearly 200 lives since May last year, were triggered by a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ organised to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
