AGARTALA, July 30: In a strong move aimed at ensuring accountability and restoring public trust in governance, District Magistrate & Collector of South Tripura, Muhammad Sajad P., IAS, has issued a stern directive to all government officials in the district following a spike in public complaints regarding misbehaviour and lack of courtesy in government offices.
In an official order, the DM stated that numerous complaints have been received from citizens alleging rude behaviour, indiscipline, and intentional delays in service delivery by certain government officers and staff. He emphasized that such conduct is not only inappropriate but also a violation of the standards expected from public servants.
”Such behaviour is unbecoming of a government servant and severely undermines public confidence in the administration,” the order reads. The District Magistrate referred to the Tripura State Public Services Guarantee Act, 2014, which mandates timely, efficient, and respectful delivery of public services, and the Tripura Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1988, which require government employees to uphold high standards of courtesy, discipline, and professionalism.
He warned that any instance of misconduct, including intentional delays, denial of services without valid reasons, or disrespectful behaviour towards the public, would attract strict disciplinary action, including suspension, departmental proceedings, or other penalties as per existing service rules.
The District Magistrate also encouraged the public to report instances of poor conduct or service denial. Complaints can be submitted via the district’s toll-free helpline 1077 or by calling 6909358819.
”All Heads of Offices are instructed to immediately brief and sensitize their staff on appropriate public behaviour, punctuality, and adherence to service standards,” the order further stated. Offices have also been directed to maintain and monitor a Grievance Register at the Office of the District Magistrate & Collector to ensure that all complaints are addressed promptly and effectively.
This proactive step by the South Tripura administration aims to foster a more responsive, respectful, and citizen-friendly government service environment.
