AGARTALA, Sept 29 : A significant protest rally took place in Agartala, drawing over 1,000 participants, including intellectuals, journalists, teachers, lawyers, doctors, and local residents. Organized by the Forum for Protection of Minorities in Bangladesh, the rally aimed to address the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh.
The rally commenced in front of the Agartala Press Club, where veteran journalist and forum president Subal Kumar Dey voiced alarm over the deteriorating conditions in Bangladesh. “Following the collapse of the Hasina government, anarchy has taken hold. It is unprecedented; we are witnessing a state of lawlessness, leading to increased attacks on Hindu minorities,” he stated.

Senior journalist and president of the Agartala Press Club, Jayanta Bhattacharya, highlighted the forum’s role as a platform uniting various professionals to advocate for minority rights. “Today, we gather in Agartala, deeply concerned about the ongoing violence in Bangladesh. We have seen the repercussions of the quota movement manifesting in attacks on minority communities, vandalism of temples and businesses, and even forced conversions of Hindus. This is intolerable,” Bhattacharya emphasized. He confirmed that the protest would continue as long as such atrocities persist.
The organization has prepared two memorandums to be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging direct intervention from the Indian government. They also plan to reach out to Md. Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh.
