Tripura wins seven national-level panchayat awards

AGARTALA, Dec 6: Tripura has achieved seven panchayat awards out of 45 from the Ministry of panchayats for efficient management in the state’s panchayat system.

A senior official from the state government said that the Ministry of panchayats annually awards the panchayats across the country for their good work in panchayat management. 

As part of this, the panchayat Ministry has announced the National Panchayat Awards 2024. 

“It is a matter of great pride and honour to know that our state, Tripura, has achieved incredible success in the entire country. Out of the total 45 awards given, Tripura bagged an unprecedented total of 7 awards. In terms of total awards, Tripura has bagged the first position jointly with Odisha,” said the official. 

He said that the Gomati district of Tripura will be awarded the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikash Puraskar for the Best District Panchayats in the country and has bagged prize money of Rs 5 crore. Amarpur RD Block will be awarded the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikash Puraskar under the category of Best Block Panchayats for becoming the second-best block in the whole country, bagging prize money of Rs 1 crore 75 lakh.

The Manubunkul Village Committee under Rupaichari block will be awarded the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikash Puraskar for the theme of Best Women-Friendly Panchayat in the country, bagging prize money of Rs 1 crore. 

 ”The Thakchahra Gram Panchayat of Amarpur RD block will be awarded the Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar under the category Carbon Neutral Panchayat for being the second-best in the category in the country, bagging a prize of Rs 75 lakhs. The Betchara Gram Panchayat of Kumarghat block will be awarded the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikash Puraskar for the theme Poverty Free and Enhanced Livelihoods Panchayat, and has come third in poverty alleviation across the country, bagging prize money of Rs 50 lakhs. The Rajkang Village Committee under Amarpur RD Block will be awarded the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikash Puraskar for the theme Child-Friendly Panchayat for becoming third in the formation of child-friendly panchayats in the country, with a prize of Rs 50 lakhs. The Debbari Gram Panchayat of Amarpur block will be awarded the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikash Puraskar under the theme Water Sufficient Village for becoming third in the country to create water-sufficient villages, with a prize of Rs 50 lakh,” he said. 

The total prize money received by the various districts, blocks, and panchayats of our state respectively amounts to Rs 10 crore. 

He said that a state delegation led by Sandeep R Rathode, Secretary RD (Panchayats), will participate in the National Panchayat Award Ceremony scheduled for December 11 in New Delhi, which will be graced by the presence of the President of India.

Chief Minister Manik Saha extended heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved in this outstanding achievement and expressed optimism for continued success. 

He emphasized that this accomplishment, earned by the panchayats of our state amidst competition with nearly 2.5 lakh panchayats nationwide, stands as a testament to the strength and effectiveness of the Panchayati Raj system in Tripura.
