AGARTALA, Dec 20: Agartala is abuzz with preparations as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, DoNER minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and a host of dignitaries gather for the 72nd North Eastern Council (NEC) Plenary Session.
The high-profile meeting, slated for December 20 and 21, will focus on the region’s developmental roadmap.
This evening, Shah and Scindia will arrive in the Tripura capital, joined by five Governors, three chief ministers, and other senior officials. Sukanta Majumder, Union minister of State, will also be present, adding to the roster of influential leaders committed to advancing the Northeast’s growth agenda.
Confirmed attendees include Governors K.T. Parnaik (Arunachal Pradesh), Lakshman Prasad Acharya (Manipur), La Ganesan (Nagaland), Om Prakash (Sikkim), and Hari Babu Kambhampati (Mizoram). Chief ministers Pema Khandu (Arunachal Pradesh), N. Biren Singh (Manipur), and Prem Singh Tamang (Sikkim) will contribute to the discussions, alongside other key stakeholders.
Chief minister Pema Khandu, upon arriving in Agartala with Governor KT Parnaik and senior officials, praised the host state’s allure. “Tripura is a treasure trove of history, culture, and natural splendor. This is the perfect setting for deliberations aimed at uplifting the Northeast,” he remarked.
The NEC plenary provides a platform for collaborative policymaking among northeastern states, aligning efforts for inclusive and sustainable development. Delegates will deliberate on pressing challenges and explore innovative solutions to accelerate progress across the region.
The two-day session is expected to conclude with actionable strategies to address the Northeast’s unique developmental needs, strengthening the foundation for a prosperous future.
