USTM organises awareness programme on Computer Literacy

Guwahati, Dec 2: Like earlier years, the Department of Computer Science and Electronics, in association with IQAC of USTM, has organised World Computer Literacy Day here today.

Students of Holy Heart Secondary School, Lower Jorbil Village, Kiling road, Meghalaya were invited to the Department to celebrate this event. Approximately thirty-five students from different classes with teachers joined in this event.

During the interactive session with the students by the CSE department faculties, emphasis was given to the importance of computers in daily life and the present significant development of computing technology. The faculties of the Department delivered speeches on the relevance of observing the day and pointed out the advantages of computer applications for the student’s knowledge. Students learned various components of computers in the computer lab during the lab visiting session.

They worked with the system on the basics of computers. The students enjoyed the departmental video and the USTM campus highlights. During the floor visit of the Department, the display board of the latest TECHPEDIA 3.0 was shown to them, highlighting the message of the emergence of IoT and AI. It also mentioned that the current display board is designed with fully IoT-enabled technology.

World Computer Literacy Day was launched by the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) to mark its 20th anniversary on 2nd December 2001. Since then, it has been observed to promote digital literacy among underprivileged people in India and the rest of the globe and to encourage digital literacy among men, women, and children.
