World Environment Day observed across Nagaland

DIMAPUR, June 5: The World Environment Day was observed across Nagaland with plantation drive and mass social works on the theme “land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience”.

The Dimapur district administration, in collaboration with local government schools, organised a programme-cum-plantation drive under the national clean air programme (NCAP) launched to improve air quality in 131 cities across 24 states/UTs in India.

In Kohima, the directorate of employment, skill development and entrepreneurship with tree plantation drive in its office premises and taking of a pledge to protect the environment.

In a remarkable display of community spirit and dedication, residents of Pungro town in Kiphire district came together and conducted mass social work to commemorate the day.

Cleanliness and plantation drive by all departments and villages under Pughoboto sub-division under Zunheboto district was organised by the Pughoboto additional deputy commissioner’s office to commemorate the day.

The day was celebrated at Chessore, Shamator and its surrounding villages by spreading awareness message to conserve the environment for a better and healthy future by organising mass social work in Chessore town.

A cleanliness drive was conducted with a special focus on single-use plastic waste and clearing of clogged drains in Tizit town in Mon district where all the residents actively participated. To mark the day, the staff of the Tizit additional deputy commissioner’s office also planted trees at their office premises for which the saplings were provided by the forest department.

Cleanliness drive-cum-waste management collection drive was organised at Chozuba in Phek district.

Atoizu sub-division in Zunheboto district observed the day with a tree-planting ceremony at the additional deputy commissioner’s office.
