Assam’s Rajni Basnet Kalita becomes first referee from state to officiate international match

Guwahati, Dec 28: Guwahati’s Rajni Basnet Kalita made history on Thursday as the first referee from Assam to officiate at an international event.

She was appointed match referee for today’s One Day International (ODI) series opener between India Women and Australia Women at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Hailing from Guwahati’s Boragaon area, Rajni Basnet Kalita had previously been a match referee at the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL).

In today’s match, India posted a total of 282 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 50 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues was the highest scorer for India with 82 runs off 77 deliveries, followed by Yastika Bhatia’s 49 and Pooja Vastrakar’s crucial 62 off 46. Australia will need to chase the total to secure a win.
