GUWAHATI, Sept 3: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway conducted regular checks and drives from August 29 to 31, resulting in the apprehension of 11 individuals involved in thefts of passenger belongings. These operations took place at various stations and trains, leading to the successful recovery of valuables worth approximately Rs 1,74,600 at railway stations in Katihar, Lumding, New Haflong, and Guwahati.
On August 29, the RPF CPDS (Crime Prevention & Detection Squad) team in Katihar, along with GRP/Katihar, apprehended three individuals during a routine check at Katihar railway station. They recovered three mobile phones stolen from passengers, with an estimated value of Rs 32,000. Subsequently, the recovered mobile phones and the apprehended individuals were handed over to the officer-in-charge of GRP/Katihar for further proceedings.
On August 31, the RPF team in Guwahati conducted a checking drive at Guwahati railway station and apprehended one person in possession of a bag containing a gold chain, a gold ring, one mobile phone, and other valuables valued at around Rs 60,600. These items had been stolen from a passenger on Train no 13175 (Sealdah – Silchar) Kanchanjungha Express. The recovered items and the apprehended person were subsequently handed over to the officer-in-charge of GRP/Guwahati for further necessary actions.
