RPF of NFR recovers stolen passenger belongings worth Rs 3.49 lakh

GUWAHATI, Oct 3: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway conducted routine checks and drives within the zone from September 17 to 28, 2023, resulting in the apprehension of 18 individuals involved in stealing passenger belongings. During these checks at various stations and on trains, they successfully recovered valuables worth approximately Rs 3,49,200 from railway stations at New Jalpaiguri, Lumding, Kishanganj, Dimapur, Jagiroad, New Bongaigaon, Barpeta Road, Hojai, and Guwahati.

On September 25, 2023, the RPF team in Hojai apprehended three individuals during a routine check at Hojai Railway Station. They recovered six mobile phones worth approximately Rs 76,800 and cash amounting to Rs 5,400, which had been stolen from a passenger. The apprehended persons and the recovered items were subsequently handed over to the inspector in charge of GRP/Hojai for further proceedings.

On September 20, 2023, the RPF team in Lumding apprehended one person during a routine check at Lumding Railway Station. They recovered a mobile phone worth approximately Rs 23,000 that had been stolen from a passenger. The apprehended person and the recovered mobile phone were handed over to the officer in charge of GRP/Lumding for further proceedings.

In another incident on September 17, 2023, the RPF team in New Jalpaiguri, in collaboration with GRP/New Jalpaiguri, conducted a drive in train no 15909 (Dibrugarh – Lalgarh) Avadh Assam Express at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. They apprehended one person with two stolen mobile phones worth Rs 20,000 approximately. The apprehended person and the recovered mobile phones were handed over to the officer in charge of GRP/New Jalpaiguri for further proceedings.

Throughout September 2023, the RPF arrested 82 individuals involved in the theft of passenger belongings, with the recovery of stolen items worth approximately Rs 13,23,885.
