SILCHAR, May 9: The Cachar district administration, on Sunday, invited the leading citizens of Silchar and members of various political parties to a meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office in Silchar to get their views and opinions about the importance of setting up of the proposed Greenfield airport in Doloo tea estate.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Dr Rajdeep Roy who presided over the meeting, reiterated that the government would materialise the project of setting up the proposed Greenfield airport in Cachar district’s Doloo tea estate by ensuring the rights and interests of the tea workers are protected. The MP said some ‘evil forces’ are trying to cause hindrances in the path of the project’s materialisation in various ways, but claimed that such forces would not be successful in their ‘wicked’ attempts.
“The government will take stringent steps to foil any bid of creating obstructions in connection with the airport project’s materialisation. No force will be able to stop the project from being materialised,” mentioned MP Dr Rajdeep Roy.

He said the government has made this commitment time and again that the rights and interests of the tea estate’s workers would be protected (after the airport is built) and it would definitely do so.
“There is no need to worry for the tea estate’s workers. The government is there to make sure that they get everything they need and deserve after the mega project is materialised,” MP Dr Roy added.
It may be mentioned that a section of workers of Doloo tea estate and Lalabagh and Moynargarh sections have raised objections over the setting up of the Greenfield airport apparently out of fear of losing their jobs and shelter once the project is materialised. The workers are of the view that a huge number of tea bushes would be destroyed for building the airport and this would result in them losing their jobs after the airport is constructed. The state government, however, has given assurances multiple times that it would ensure the tea workers’ rights and interests are protected after completion of the mega project.
From district administration, Kumar Gourav Das, co (sadar), Pankaj Kumar Deka, additional deputy commissioner, incharge land acquisition branch and Kimneinin Changsen, assistant commissioner were also present on the occasion.
