General meeting of Darrang College Alumni Association held

TEZPUR, May 10: An extended general meeting of Darrang College Alumni Association was held on Monday in the college premises which was presided over by Dr. Abani Kumar Sarma, retired principal and founder general secretary of the alumni association and hosted by Pankaj Barua, joint secretary. At the very outset adviser of the association and renowned educationist Akhil Sarma hoisted the flag of the association and urged all to make the Darrang College alumni association strong and distinguished. Along with the programme, floral tribute was paid to Hemanta Kumar Barua, the former president and Madhab Chandra Das, former adviser of the association. Bijoy Saikia, senior member and Dr. Abani Kumar Sarma, adviser of the association ceremonially started the programme with the lighting of the lamp wherein Achyut Kumar Sarma, Arunim Das, Pankaj Barua, Mahendra Kumar Nath, Aswini Bora, Barlin Kumar Saikia, Samir Kar, Aswini Kumar Sarma, Minoo Devi, Dr. Dulal Das, Simanta Kakati and several others took part from the ex-student fraternity. The newly renovated office premises of the association was also inaugurated by Dr. Palashmoni Saikia, principal, Darrang College just ahead of the meeting.

During the meeting, Dr. Palashmoni Saikia, principal, Darrang College welcomed the ex-student fraternity of the historic Darrang College and urged all in his address to come forward to dedicate their services for the overall benevolence of the college at their convenience.

“The college always expects active participation of the association in carrying out the activities especially in the segment of academic and infrastructural development of the college,” Dr. Saikia added. From the desk of the ex-student body Dr. Dharmendra Sarma, Dr. Monuj Kumar Hazarika, Dr. Gahan Mahanta, Sudarshan Sahu, Parama Kakati, Ratan Dutta, Gaurab Mahanta and several members shared their views during the meeting. A new committee was formed headed by Dr. Dharmendra Sarma as president and Dr. Manuj Kumar Hazarika as general secretary, for the coming session. Among others Aswini Kr. Sarma, Minoo Devi, Achyut Sarma, Dr. Hemanta Jyoti Nath, Nripendra Kumar Bora, Dr. Manoj Kumar Mirdha,Dr. Jyoti Kamal Hazarika, Dr. Dulal Hazarika, Thandi Newar, Barlin Kumar Saikia, Mahendra Kumar Nath, Pritom Bora, Polash Pratim Bora, Deepa Das, Alok Sarma, Samir Kar, Simanta Kakati, Dr. Bidhan Bora, Amit Bodo, Dr. Pradeep Nath, Arunim Das, Satya Pratim Barua, Atul Chandra Kataki, Debanjan Pathak, Dipika Saikia Barua, Rubi Bora Santra, Balindra Barua, Angshuman Khanikar, Pradip Kumar Choudhury, Tanuja Tamuli Phukan, Nayan Jyoti Gogoi, Sudipta Barua, Tapan Kumar Nath, Debajit Kumar Sarma, Satya Prasad Saikia, Indrani Tamuly, Tojaddin Ahmed, Ratul Krishna Sarma, Amar Gautam, Rajib Jalan Suranjan Paul, Akhtar Hussain, Pradip Kumar Choudhury, Hemanta Kumar Lahkar attended the programme.
