DEMOW, Nov 20: Pijush Hazarika, the state water resources minister, laid the foundation stone for the protection of the Kokilamari Soniboria Bazar area of B/DYKE from the erosion of the River Brahmaputra in Kokilamari near Demow of Thowra Constituency on Monday. The estimated cost of the scheme is Rs 8 crore, and it will be funded by NABARD.
The key provisions of the project include Geo-Bag protection work with a reach length of 561 meters, involving dumping silt-filled Geo Bags, PVC coated Wire-netting Gabion boxes, and continuous pitching with Geo Bags over Geo Fabric filter media on the trimmed bank slope; launching of PSC Porcupine screens to choke the two off-shoot channels and at the upstream (U/S) and downstream (D/S) of the protection work.
The project aims to prevent river erosion in the Kokilamari Soniboria Bazar area. State water resources minister Pijush Hazarika was accompanied by Topon Kumar Gogoi, Jorhat MP, Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain, Bhairab Deori, CEM of Deori Autonomous Council, Mayur Borgohain, District BJP President, Engineers of the Water Resources Department, and Officials of district administration during his visit to Kokilamari on Monday.
