GUWAHATI, Dec 27: Guwahati International Airport took a proactive step towards disaster preparedness by organising a simulated mock drill focusing on earthquake scenarios. The mock exercise, conducted in collaboration with the airport operator and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), aimed to assess and enhance the implementation of prescribed emergency plans at the airport premises.
The earthquake preparedness drill took place at the airport office premises and was closely overseen by Jayanta Prakash, controller NDRF, Monoj Kumar Rana, AC, state police, State Fire, ARFF, Airport Medical Team, and security personnel.

The simulated scenario involved a sample of rescue operations, showcasing the response strategies for buildings damaged by an earthquake. Various exercises were carried out, emphasising the efficient rescue of workers from severely damaged structures. The drill commenced at 11 am, with employees and workers receiving detailed briefings on the simulated emergency situation.
A dramatic enactment illustrated the coordinated efforts of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local police personnel, highlighting the swift response required within the first 15 minutes after an earthquake.
Key representatives from CISF, fire and security departments, state police, and NTPC were among the first responders, initiating rescue operations promptly. The SDRF team established an incident command post, demonstrating various recovery techniques. Following initial first aid at a tent set up outside, individuals were safely rescued from the simulated damaged building and promptly transported to the hospital.
The entire exercise concluded smoothly by 11:45 am, serving as a crucial step in ensuring the airport’s preparedness for emergency situations and the safety of passengers and staff.
