GUWAHATI, Jan 13: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president J P Nadda for recognising the trust bestowed upon the BJP by the people of Dima Hasao.
The party secured a resounding victory in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) elections, winning 25 out of 30 seats, including six uncontested.
Modi, acknowledging the support from Dima Hasao, stated, “Gratitude to the people of Dima Hasao for their faith in @BJP4Assam. Our party will always work to fulfil people’s aspirations. I also laud our party karyakartas for their hard work.”
In response, Sarma expressed heartfelt gratitude to PM Modi, stating, “Your visionary leadership inspires us to work tirelessly, ensuring that their aspirations are met. Together, we move forward for a thriving Dima Hasao and Assam as a whole.”
In a separate post on X, Nadda attributed the victory to the people’s “approval for the developmental works” carried out by the “double-engine government” under Modi.
He further praised party workers for their rigorous efforts in reaching out to the people.
Replying to Nadda, Sarma characterised the resounding mandate as a reassertion of the immense faith the people have in the developmental agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The resounding mandate given by the people to @BJO4Assam in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council elections is a reassertion of the immense faith they have on the developmental agenda of Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi ji,” Sarma said in another post on X.
The NCHAC has 30 members, of whom 28 are elected and two are nominated.
A historic win for the BJP was marked by Donphainon Thaosen in the prestigious 1-Haflong constituency. The current chief executive member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa triumphed in Dehangi, while former CEM Niranjan Hojai secured victory in Hatikhali.
Other winning candidates include Flaming Rupsi (Jatinga), Porbita Johori (Mahur), Noha Daime (Hangrum), Biswajit Daulagupu (Wajao), Paudaming Nriame (Laisong), Zousamthang Hmar (Jinam), Pronath Rajiyung (Dautuhaja), Ngminlal Lienthang (Borail), and Ratan Jarambus, who clinched the Kalchand constituency with a narrow one-vote margin.
In an intriguing contest, Ramgalungbe Jeme, an independent candidate, emerged victorious against his closest rival, Namrang Jeme of the BJP. Lalresiema Darnei secured victory in Kharthong, and Rupali Langthasa, a new women candidate, won the Diyungbra constituency.
Devojit Bathari secured victory in Hadingma, Johnpaithon Hrangkhol, an independent candidate, triumphed in Dolong, defeating his close opponent ST Jem Hrangkhol of the BJP.
The Diger constituency witnessed existing EM and MAC Samuel Changsan securing victory, while the Semkhor constituency was won by independent candidate Heorojit Jidung, who defeated existing BJP EM and MAC Ranu Langthasa.
It is worth mentioning that the recently held NCHAC MAC elections witnessed enthusiastic participation with 87 candidates in the fray and a substantial 85.78 per cent voter turnout.
Notably, 1-Haflong constituency reported the lowest turnout at 75.51 per cent.
