Shillong, Jan 16: President Droupadi Murmu interacted with self-help group (SHG) members at Baljek Airport in Meghalaya’s Tura on Tuesday. She also inaugurated the construction of the new integrated administration complex in Tura via a virtual event, according to an official statement from the Deputy Press Secretary to the President.
In her address, President Murmu underlined the significance of women’s empowerment in all aspects of society to achieve India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. She highlighted the achievements of Indian women in various fields, emphasizing the need for encouragement and recognition.
President Murmu stressed on the importance of women’s economic independence and self-reliance, and urged individuals to acknowledge and support the women around them. She also encouraged SHG members to continue their progress and help other women advance.
Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, took to platform X to share that thousands of women-led SHG members welcomed President Murmu at Baljek. He praised her as an inspiration to the country’s women and the people of the nation, and stated that her presence deeply motivated the SHG members of Meghalaya.
