Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Distributes Ration Cards To Beneficiaries In Jorhat

JORHAT, Jan 23: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched the ceremonial distribution of ration cards to new beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 of Jorhat Assembly constituency at a function held in Assam’s Jorhat district.

Sarma, in his address, said that in Jorhat constituency, a total of 6,328 beneficiaries would receive ration cards which would benefit 23,000 families.

“Altogether over 34400 ration cards would be distributed across Jorhat district under this initiative. In the entire state 42 lakh people from 10 lakh families would be getting ration cards,” he added.

Stating that the new ration cards beneficiaries were distributed in two categories – Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Agradhikar Prapta Pariyal, he urged the beneficiaries to collect their quota of rice for this month from the ration shops before January 31.

The chief minister further informed that in the first category 35 kgs of rice is given per family in the second one five kgs of rice per each member of a family gets.

He also said that the ration card beneficiaries will be covered under PM Ayushman scheme to avail medical treatment up to Rs five lakh in government hospitals/centres and empanelled nursing homes.

“Till they get the health cards the ration cards could be used to avail,” he added.

Sarma also informed that the ration cards holders will also get the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUJ) and government has plans to extend Orunodoi scheme to the cardholder women members of the family.

Sarma, while asserting that a new journey of development, progress and prosperity had began after his government came to power and people could see the transformation unfolding as government was undertaking steps to provide the benefits to people in their hands instead of public making rounds at government offices.

Mentioning about his Government’s tough policies on curbing drugs, corruption and other ills that causes hindrance towards public benefits and welfare, the chief minister said that recruitment process for filling up one lakh posts had been transparent, free and fair with merit as the cornerstone.

He also announced that the process for absorbing another 35,000 people for government posts will start soon.

Sarma announced that from February 16 to 22 the Government would distribute land pattas to three lakh people across Assam under the Mission Basundhara for which premium of Rs 500 will have to be paid.

 

The chief minister, while praising the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking India forward in all spheres under his leadership, spoke about various welfare schemes for poor and downtrodden which have been undertaken nine years for their uplift.

“During COVID-19 pandemic period the central government provided free rice to ration card holders across the country and also free vaccine immunisation,” he stated.

Minister of Finance, Women and Child Development, who is also the guardian minister of Jorhat, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi, legislators of Jorhat and Dergaon were among the dignitaries who were present on the occasion.
