IMPHAL, Feb 4: In a concerted effort to address the ongoing challenges in strife-hit Manipur, the Manipur police, in collaboration with central security forces, continued its joint operation on Saturday as they recovered arms from Thoubal and Imphal East districts.
The focus of the operation remains on the peripheral areas surrounding the violent affected hill and valley districts.
In Thoubal district, the recovered items included one .303 rifle, one DBBL (Double Barrel Break-Action Shotgun), two 36 HE hand grenades, one 51 mm ILLP (Illuminating Parachute Landing Practice), two WP Gren no 80 MK-1, one handheld Chinese Walkie Talkie set, one tear smoke shell soft nose, one cartridge of 38 mm anti-riot with rubber bullet, one 5.56 mm magazine of INSAS rifles, one magazine of 5.56 mm INSAS LMG (Light Machine Gun), two BP jacket harness, five 7.62 ammunition, and three 12 bore cartridges.
On the other hand, in Imphal East district, the police recovered one single barrel gun, two 2” mortar ILL bombs with covers, five 36 HE grenades without detonator, and two miniflare cartridges.
Additionally, an operation conducted in Kangpokpi district on February 2 yielded the recovery of one M16 rifle with a magazine, one 9mm pistol with a magazine, two .36 hand grenades, and three 9mm rounds.
The joint operation demonstrates the commitment of Manipur police and central security forces to curb illegal arms activities and maintain peace in the region. The recovery of such significant caches underscores the ongoing efforts to secure and stabilize Manipur amidst prevailing challenges.
