Govt Preparing Proposal To Develop LGBRIMH: Keshab

Tezpur, May 27: The state government will develop Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) to bring it at par with NIMHANS, located at Bangalore.

This was stated by the state Health minister Keshab Mahanta during his visit to the institute here on Friday.

The Health minister held a meeting with the officials and doctors and discussed various issues including infrastructure of the institution and took stock of the overall situation.

The meeting also discussed the issue of upgradation of the institute to an institute of national importance.

In this regard a proposal to be submitted to the Centre is being prepared, the minister said.

In the  meeting additional secretary to the Health Department Manas Nath, additional director of Medical Education and state executive director of National Health Mission Dr. Manoj Choudhury, principal of Tezpur Medical College Dr. Karuna Hazarika, head of Psychiatry Department of Guwahati Medical College, Professor Dr. Dipanjali Medhi, joint director of Health Services, Sonitpur Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, superintendent of Mental Hospital Dr. Jyoti Hazarika, deputy superintendent of Mental Hospital Dr. Kushal Kumar Tamuli, administrative officer and assistant professor of Psychiatry Dr. Hemant Dutta, assistant professor Dr. Bishnu Batsyal were present.

The Health minister also visited the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department, Food Preparation and Processing Room and Central Library etc. and interacted with the officials.
