Assam: Train Mows Down Elephant In Bokajan

BOKAJAN, May 30: An elephant was hit by a train in Bokajan under the East Division Forest of Karbi Anglong at around 8 pm on Sunday.

The wild elephant was hit by Guwahati-Mariani BG Express while crossing the rail track along with its herd. The impact of the strike killed the elephant and was thrown away 20 feet off the track and it died on the spot.

Meanwhile, forest officials retrieved the carcass of the dead elephant on Monday with the help of a crane. A team of veterinarians conducted post mortem and other formalities and later the Forest department buried the carcass in a nearby tea garden.
