DIPHU, June 2: The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) is sure to win many seats in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election the voting of which will take place on June 8 and will give the BJP a run for their money, said party secretary and in charge propaganda Daniel Teron.

Out of total 26 seats, the ASDC has fielded its candidates in 18 Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) seats viz., Duar Amla MAC constituency- Sarkar Phangcho, Chinthong MAC constituency- Chandra Ronghar, Socheng MAC constituency- Ramsing Terang, Kopili MAC constituency- Chandrasing Dera, Hamren MAC constituency- Mensing Terang, Howraghat MAC constituency- Ratneswar Timung, Phuloni MAC constituency- Monindra Bey, Korkhanti MAC constituency- Khorsing Engti, Mahamaya MAC constituency-  Babusing Ronghang, Nonmati MAC constituency- Borsing Phangcho, Socheng Dhenta MAC constituency- Dijendra Terang, Lumbajong MAC constituency- Maikon Rongpharpi, Dhansiri MAC constituency- Mandal Taro, Singhason MAC constituency- Rakesh Sing Teron, Deopani MAC constituency- Bidyasing Tisso, Nilip MAC constituency- Sunil Tokbi, Duarbagori MAC constituency- Rajen Hanse and Borjan MAC constituency- Kamalsing Bey.

The party is contesting the election with the poll agenda- implementation of Article 244 (A) of Indian constitution for creation of Autonomous State in the three hill districts of Assam, opposing the declaration of eco-sensitive and elephant corridor in Karbi hills adjoining to Kaziranga National Park, demanding handing over of Diphu Medical College & Hospital to KAAC authority, proper implementation of MoU signed in 1995 and publication of voters list and land pattas in English.

Informing about the prospect of the party, the secretary Teron said, “In many constituencies the ASDC is going to win and this time we are going give the BJP a run for their money.”

Teron also clarified about not fielding candidates in CEM’s constituency Bithung Rengthama saying the allegation by a section of people that the ASDC is having an understanding with CEM is just an imagination and it is not true.

“We are going to bring down Tuliram Ronghang. We are not like the Congress. In Amri the ASDC is supporting Amri Development Front supported independent candidate Elwin Teron and in Bithung Rengthama, ASDC candidate has filed nomination, but withdrawn in support of All Party Hills Leaders Conference independent candidate Bikram Hanse. In Amreng the ASDC has not fielded its candidate and is supporting an independent candidate Biren Hanse,” said secretary Teron.

In places where the ASDC has not fielded its candidates, the party is supporting ‘likeminded’ candidates. In Surupathar ASDC is supporting independent candidate Ajit Rongpi.

About the possibilities of the number of seats to be won by ASDC, Teron said around 10 to 15 seats and among them is Amri. Teron blamed the ruling BJP at KAAC for doing nothing in the last five years.

“In every village where I go for campaigning, there is a positive response as people are fed-up with the BJP. ASDC’s winning is certain,” she said.
