DIPHU, June 17: A teenager from Diphu drowned in the Siloni River at the Longsokangthu picnic spot in the afternoon on Monday.

The Longsokangthu picnic spot is located 24 kms north of Diphu.

The teenager was identified as Roshan Basumatary (17), son of Kanak Basumatary. He was a resident of Panbari, Diphu.
According to sources, the victim had gone to the Longsokangthu picnic spot by the bank of the Siloni river to take a bath along with his friends. While he was bathing in the river he was carried away by the swift current of the water at around 2:30 pm.
The locals informed the police. Police from the Manja Police Station reached the spot and launched an operation to fish out the body of the victim from the river.
