DONGKAMUKAM:Â Several areas in Karbi Anglong were flooded after NEEPCO opened the sluice gates of the Kandong Dam on the Kopili river on Monday.
Incessant rains for the past week in the district had compelled the officials of NEEPCO to release the excess water, thereby causing immense plight to the people living in the downstream areas.
The most affected MAC (Member of Autonomous Council) areas are Bithung Rengthama, Rongkhang and parts of Kopili MAC constituencies in West Karbi Anglong
Families residing in the downstream areas were directed to move towards safer places. Many of them have either taken shelter in makeshift tents on the embankment or have moved to the homes of their relatives and friends.
On Monday the Dongkamukam Tumpreng Hojai road was flooded and commuters could travel on the road only after 10 am when the water level gradually began to recede. Flood waters reportedly also overflowed the road at Komorakatta in Hojai district.
