Lok Kalyan Divas observed across Assam

District-level awards recognise exceptional service as officials emphasise commitment to public welfare & unity

GUWAHATI, Aug 5: Two employees in Dima Hasao were conferred with the Lok Seva Puraskar on the occasion of Lok Kalyan Divas on Monday, to commemorate the death anniversary of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi.

The recipients of the District Level Lok Seva Puraskar, Lalruotmoi Khawbung, senior district administrative assistant, and Bishnu Chetri, MTS, were awarded by the district commissioner and the dignitaries present.

These awardees are included among the 37 other district-level non-gazetted employees and 10 state-level non-gazetted employees. The recipients will receive a one-year extension of service beyond the retirement age, a cash award of Rs 25,000 each, and a citation.

District commissioner Simanta Kumar Das informed that the selection criteria, apart from other parameters, are based on work ethics, punctuality, and integrity, along with any other criteria decided by the screening and/or selection committee.

Ramesh Thaosen, retired civil servant and former secretary to the government of Assam, attended the programme as the keynote speaker and gave a brief about the life and contributions of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi.

District commissioner Simanta Kumar Das, in his speech, emphasised the importance of dedication and efficiency for each public servant. He encouraged the officers and employees present to serve the public with enhanced dedication.

As part of the programme, cultural songs were presented by three singers, enthralling the audience. The welcome speech was delivered by ADC Shaurya Sharma, the vote of thanks was given by Sukhram Chauhan, and the entire programme was compered by assistant commissioner Dhiman Hazarika.

Likewise, the district administration of Cachar celebrated Lok Kalyan Divas with a spirited program held at Gandhi Bhawan on Monday, emphasising unity and public welfare. District commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, in his address, underscored the day’s significance as a vital reminder of the government’s commitment to uplifting the marginalised and ensuring development reaches every corner of society.

District commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha highlighted that Lok Kalyan Divas is more than a ceremonial observance; it is a day dedicated to the well-being of the people, reflecting the government’s continuous efforts in this regard. He called upon all citizens and officials present to actively contribute to community welfare and work collectively towards a more inclusive and prosperous Cachar.

During the event, DC Rohan Kumar Jha presented the prestigious district-level Lok Sewa Puraskar to Suranjan Das and Narrotam Saha, employees of the DC’s establishment, in recognition of their outstanding performance. The award, conferred by the Governor of Assam, includes a citation of Rs 25,000 and a one-year extension of service.

The Lok Sewa Puraskar, awarded on Lok Kalyan Divas, recognises the exceptional dedication of non-gazetted state government employees, celebrating their essential role in public service and honouring the legacy of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, Assam’s first chief minister.

The event, which commenced at 2:00 pm, served as a platform for reflection on public service achievements and ongoing challenges, with a focus on continuous improvement in service delivery for the people of Cachar.

The program was attended by notable officials, including district development commissioner Norsing Bey, additional district commissioners Yubraj Borthakur, Van Lal Limpuia Nampui, Kimchin Lhangum, Dhruva Jyoti Hazarika, assistant commissioners Jonali Devi, Praveen Mahato, incharge deputy director of information and public relations Silchar, Inspector of Schools Cachar, and assistant commissioner Bonnkya Chetia.

Our Sivasagar correspondent adds: Along with the rest of the state, Lok Kalyan Divas was observed at Sivasagar Siu Ka Pha Bhawan on the occasion of the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi on Monday.

Lok Kalyan Divas observed across Assam

Abtarendra Das, senior administrative assistant of the DC Office, Sivasagar, received the district-level Lok Sewa Award from district commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav. Yadav paid tributes to Gopinath Bordoloi and, while congratulating Abtarendra Das, urged all government employees to work dedicatedly for the development of the state.

Dr Samerjyoti Mahanta, principal of Sibsagar Commerce College, said that recognition rejuvenates sagging spirits, providing tremendous impetus to work and go ahead.

The meeting was attended by a host of senior citizens, government officers, and staff members.

Our Hojai correspondent adds: In synchronisation with the rest of the state, Lok Kalyan Divas, marking the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, was observed by the Hojai district administration at the Community Hall at the district headquarters Sankardevnagar in Hojai on Monday. District commissioner Lachit Kumar Das graced the occasion as the chief guest. At the very outset, DC Lachit Kumar Das lit a lamp in front of the portrait of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, followed by floral tributes from SP Saurab Gupta, ADC Jaysankar Sarma, Sonasree Bramha, Saptati Endo, and all the guests to the legendary figure. 

After that, Ashok Gogoi, district program officer, briefly explained the objective of the program, and the guests were honoured. DC Lachit Kumar Das highlighted the significance of Lok Kalyan Divas and emphasised the contributions of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi. Along with many other officials, guests, and school students, were present at the program. 

Our Jorhat correspondent adds: Two government employees of Jorhat district were, on Monday, conferred the Lok Sewa Puraskar (Public Service Award) at a function organised by the district administration at the Shri Shri Pitambar Deva Goswami Auditorium of Jorhat District Library on the occasion of Lok Kalyan Divas, marking the 74th death anniversary of Assam’s first chief minister and Bharat Ratna recipient Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi.

The employees—Sikhajyòti Dutta, junior district administrative assistant, Magistracy branch, Jorhat DC office, and Jadumoni Chutia, ward boy, Office of the Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent, JMCH—were presented with the awards.

Jorhat district commissioner Pulak Mahanta, Dergaon MLA Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Jorhat district and Titabar sub-divisional administration officials, and noted citizens attended the program. Mahanta, in his address, spoke about the strong leadership of Bordoloi and his significant contributions to the state during the crucial period of the Partition of the country.

Earlier, floral tributes were paid to the great leader by the dignitaries, who also lit a lamp before his portrait.

It may be mentioned that the Lok Sewa Puraskar was instituted in 2022 by the government to be awarded at the district level to employees for their ethics, dedication, integrity, and punctuality, on August 5 each year, while observing the death anniversary of the state’s first chief minister.
