TEZPUR, Aug 13: UCO Bank, a public sector bank, is observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day Exhibition across the country to acknowledge the pain endured by Indians due to the partition in 1947. India gained independence on August 15, 1947, but this freedom came at the cost of partition. The partition displaced 10 to 20 million people along religious lines, creating an overwhelming refugee crisis in the country. There was large-scale violence, resulting in the loss of millions of lives. The Prime Minister of the country declared that August 14 will be remembered as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to commemorate the sufferings and sacrifices caused by the partition in 1947. The purpose of this remembrance is to eliminate the poison of social division and disharmony and to strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony, and human empowerment.
In observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, an exhibition is being held at Tarun Asom Sangha, Tezpur by LDM UCO Bank, Sonitpur. The exhibition was inaugurated by Deba Kumar Mishra, district commissioner, Sonitpur, Narendra Pratap Singh, zonal head UCO Bank, Jorhat zone, Rabindra Nath Sarmah, retired professor, Tezpur College, and Mahendra Nath Keot, retired vice principal, Darrang College. About 70 citizens and senior citizens were present at the venue. The exhibition will be displayed for 3 days until August 15.
