HOJAI, Aug 29: The Annual Milad Mehfil was celebrated with grandeur at Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, in remembrance of Prophet Muhammad at Bharat Tirtha Bhavan on Thursday. Dr Manabendra Dutta Choudhary, vice chancellor of RTU, and Dr Tilak Chandra Kalita, registrar of RTU, graced the occasion. Dr Sanjiv Kumar Borkakoti, a renowned scholar and former professor of ADP College, Nagaon, was present as the chief guest, while Dr Sohail Ahmed, head of the department of English at Jagiroad College, attended as a distinguished guest. Maulana Abdul Kadir, general secretary of the Assam Tanzim Board, served as the guest of honour. The event was further enriched by the presence of academic heads of departments and respective teachers of the university.
The program was meticulously organised under the leadership of Dr Abhijit Kakaty, president of the Annual Milad Mehfil Committee; Dr Rezina Ahmed, professor in-charge; and Dr Jesmine Ahmed, the event’s professor coordinator. Several competitions were held during the program, showcasing the talents of the students. In the speech competition, Abu Sufian from the department of Political Science at Rabindranath Tagore University secured the first prize. In the Ghazal and Qirat competitions, Abdul Razzak Laskar from Haji Anfar Ali College emerged as the winner. The Milad Mehfil concluded on a high note, being deemed a resounding success.
